Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an Osteopath and a chiropractor?
Historically, the founder of Chiropractic was acutally a student of the founder of Osteopathy, Dr Andrew Taylor Still. Nowadays, there is certainly some overlap between the conditions Osteopaths and Chiropractors treat and the techniques used. The major difference from our own patients experience, has informed us that osteopathy tends to involve more rhythmical and gentler techniques (less spinal manipulation that can produce “the pop or crack sound”) over consultations that last a little longer and are fewer in number. Additionally, Osteopaths take a more holistic approach to the body and will work on a wider area, rather than concentrating primarily on the spine and pelvis.
Can I claim my treatment through Medicare?
Yes, with a referral from your GP as part of Medicare's EPC program you are able to claim approx 90% of your treatment cost through Medicare and in some cases this can be bulk billed. To be eligible for this program you do need to meet certain criteria so please check with your GP.
I am registered for DVA (Department of Veteran's Affairs) benefits. Am I able to have Osteopathic treatment?
Yes, you simply need to ask your GP for a referral on your next visit and bring it with you to our clinic. We then bill the DVA on your behalf. It is also worth noting, that our appointment times are a minimum of 30 minutes of hands-on treatment, which is much better value than offered by many other DVA providers.
Can I claim for treatment through WorkCover?
If you have sustained a work related injury and have lodged a claim through WorkCover then you are likely to be able to claim for your treatment. In most cases, we simply need your claim number and we do the rest. Our aim is to have you pain free and back to work as quickly as possible.
I'm pregnant - is it safe for me to have treatment?
Yes, our therapists regularly treat women through all stages of their pregnancy, including conception assistance and post-partum. Treament can help to prepare your body for an easier delivery as well as making you much more comfortable during those long 9 months! The mechanics of the pelvis and lower back are vitally important when it comes to accomodating an expanding uterus. Treatment can help make these changes much easier on the body.
